Business Incubation Program
Our business incubation program offers underserved entrepreneurs and small business owners a 3-year holistic business education program, involving customized experiential business training and coaching, certification in business planning, access to markets, industry sector incubation, asset-building support and access to credit.

Co-horts for our incubation program are held throughout the year. Accepted participants work with a Client Manager during the program and are expected to share their progress and milestones so we can measure effectiveness of the program for our clients and supporters.

We also offer an array of individual workshops and training classes during the year on various subject matters. These classes range from topics such as leveraging social media to financial planning for your business.

IDA (Individual Development Account) Programs
Background: Individual Development Accounts are an asset building tool that can help targeted aspiring entrepreneurs achieve specific business financial goals. Among our normal IDA eligibility requirements, one is that participants must be at 200% or below the Federal Poverty level.

We have completed our most recent IDA program for Alameda and Contra Costa residents. With the support of
Y & H Soda Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – AFI Program, we were able to provide $52,000 in matching funds to entrepreneurs! We also wish to acknowledge U.S. Bank for their participation partnering with us to establish the bank accounts for our IDA participants.

24-hour hotline: The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is staffed by Spanish/English speaking counselors.
Support Groups: These groups provide a safe space in which formerly battered women and women who are currently in violent relationships can convene to share their experiences, offer support to each other in their healing processes.
Information & Referrals: Information and referrals, are provided based on individual needs. In addition to helping women apply for crime victims’ compensation.
Individual Counseling: We provide one-on-one support services to women dealing with domestic violence issues.
Advocacy: Nuevo Amanecer’s advocates accompany and advocate on behalf of, and serve as interpreters at various institutions such as criminal courts, police precincts, hospitals and housing centers with the intent of empowering them to access services independently.
Community Educational Presentations: Presentations are usually made to both parents and students at local schools, in community centers, and churches. In addition, Nuevo Amanecer has also developed mini-presentations that are given at local businesses.

The Nonprofit & Small Business Clinic provides free corporate legal services to nonprofit organizations and small businesses throughout New York City.

The New York State SBDC offers free counseling to any New Yorker hoping to start or grow a small business. The SBDC also offers a host of programs designed for specific groups of entrepreneurs or focusing on particular business needs.

The EntreSkills™ team’s primary objective is to facilitate, sponsor, and develop tools, aids, and models of entrepreneurial instruction. The team has developed an online training course in entrepreneurship for New York high schools and colleges. There are also versions available for NY SBDC clients, including a version just for military veterans.

The International Business Development office exists to help small- and medium-sized businesses in New York State to enter, promote and expand into the global marketplace.

The Veterans Business Outreach Program has assisted thousands of Veterans in New York since 1998, providing face to face counseling, training and mentorship.

Entrepreneurial training Course
EntreSkills is the New York Small Business Development Center’s online course in entrepreneurial education. It is available in three versions: for New York teachers to use in their classrooms, for NY SBDC clients, and for military veterans. EntreSkills is designed as a self-paced course, and can be used to start or grow a business, and to write a business plan. Each chapter includes videos, success stories, and links to other resources. Chapters topics include marketing, finances, procurement, and the global marketplace. As users work through the course they are presented with questions that go into a rough draft of their business plan. Sign up today!

Focused on increasing the dollar amount and number of city, state and private contracts awarded to women entrepreneurs, with a focus on women of color. A Business Growth Accelerator Program that increases the participation of women, especially women of color, in all industries (construction, professional services, goods and services), in city, state, federal and international contracting opportunities. This program will assist women-owned enterprises build their capacity, develop their pitch, construct their capability statement and connect them with city, state and corporate entities to provide access to opportunities to sell their products and services to them. Participants will identify what agencies procure your goods/services, determine how to best market yourself, and gain a comprehension about the public sector landscape. Topics include RFP preparation, engaging other businesses and public sector strategic marketing.

Provides skills training and technical assistance to program participants in helping to market their product or service. Eligibility requirements: If you’re a California company that’s been in business for at least 12 months then we’d love to work with you! We also specialize in working with small business owners who’ve had a hard time accessing capital, like female entrepreneurs, immigrant entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs of color, and borrowers that may have been turned down for SBA or traditional bank loans. Our typical clients are small businesses with at least 1 part-time or full-time employee who would like to grow. Businesses must be located in California and have been in operation at least 12 months (sorry, we don’t work with startups at this time). For our standard small business loans, there are no minimum credit scores for consideration. Please note, for Disaster Loans specifically the California IBank requires a minimum credit score of 550. Your business should be profitable and/or generating revenue at the time you apply. It’s ideal if your businesses can show at least 6 months of ongoing profitability, but it’s not required.
Please note, at this time we cannot work with businesses in the rideshare industry (ex. Uber, Lyft, GrubHub, Doordash) or the marijuana industry.

Innovation Station Business Incubator (ISBI). The Innovation Station Business Incubator (ISBI) program powered by the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation is the elite business accelerator agent and entrepreneurial ecosystem hub of the County. SBA Loans Atlanta is powered by Signature Bank and partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration and Georgia District Office to help Atlanta businesses get the capital they need to start successful ventures. SCORE Washington DC mentors and representatives from the local business community conduct a variety of regularly scheduled educational workshops that provide valuable information and techniques necessary for establishing and managing a successful business.

TiE's mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, education, incubating and funding.

The Sistah Shop is an initiative by The Sistahs in Business Expo, the nation’s only multi-city small business community created to celebrate and educate entrepreneurial women of color. Known as “a sanctuary for Sisterhood”, The Sistah Shop retails a curated line of products solely made by women of color, while also showcasing local vendors in a “pop-up” model on weekends. This model allows The Sistah Shop to feature more than 500 brands owned by women of color annually. Featured products range from clothing, accessories, books, health & beauty, home goods, art and more! The unique shop consist of a clean, modern concept that also includes a photo booth and an upbeat playlist that echoes through the storefront to enhance the shopping experience.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Through our partners at Pace SBDC, Columbia SBDC, City Tech SBDC, New York SBDC, Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship, Queens College SBDC, Staten Island SBDC, Bronx SBDC, Medgar Evers College Entrepreneurship and Experiential Learning Lab, TWT connects businesses with technical assistance tailored to the needs of Black business owners and emerging entrepreneurs. Technical assistance support includes grant and loan preparation, creating a business plan, marketing support, MWBE certification, human resources assistance, and operations support including permits and regulations.

INDIVIDUALIZED MENTORING AND COACHING
Through our partners at Bank of America, IBM, Varde Partners, TD Bank, TruFund and JPMorgan Chase, TWT offers one-on-one project-specific support, coaching in a specific topic area, and general mentorship for Black owned businesses. All TWT volunteers go through an extensive orientation and onboarding process to ensure they are familiar with the TWT program and deeply aware of the historical, systemic discrimination that Black owned businesses face.

TWT connects businesses to dedicated support in social media, marketing, and website development. The Facebook Career Connections program’s mission is to create jobs, train jobseekers and support businesses. The program offers businesses in the TWT network a pipeline of career-ready digital talent from diverse backgrounds.

LEGAL SUPPORT
Together We Thrive is developing a relationship with corporate partners to provide legal support to Black owned businesses.

COHORT-BASED PEER LEARNING PROGRAM
Through coalition building, TWT will offer Black owned businesses in NYC the opportunity to connect with other businesses in their industry, and share experiences and knowledge through facilitated group conversations, hence promoting the creation of networks and shared learning.

GRANT AND LOAN SUPPORT
TWT provides businesses within its network with grant and loan preparation, helping businesses identify potential sources of funding and prepare to apply for a grant or loan.

Troutman Pepper SEED’s holistic approach combines the resources of an experienced, multi-disciplinary team into an affordable package for startups and early-stage companies that are accepted into the program. The unique, deeply discounted program includes a nominal entry fee, a full suite of essential basic legal documents, effective legal counseling, and, for no additional charge, mentoring in areas such as board development and management, business plan review, and investor relations. And, leveraging our extensive array of relationships, we can introduce you to angel investors, seed funds and venture capital funds, and help tell your story to the world.

The USPAACC Education Foundation of the Southeast represents Asian American and Asian American-related groups in business, sciences, the arts, sports, education, public and community services.

With 18 locations across the state, the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center’s goal is to enhance the economic well-being of Georgians by providing a wide range of educational services for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The DCSBDC has an active Programming/Workshops/Events calendar, featuring free and low-cost workshops and training on topics relevant to small business owners. Events are available both in Spanish and English. Examples of workshop topics include: Business Start-up Information, Start-up Feasibility Analysis, Business Plan Development, Business Structuring, Government Contracting, Understanding Industry Market, Bookkeeping, Branding, Funding Opportunities, Federal and Local Government Certification, Loan Packaging, International Business Development, etc.

The CBA program at the VASBDC supports food and beverage businesses with services such as market analysis, distribution and logistics, sales strategy, marketing, and operations. Their services are designed to promote sustainable growth and resilience among Virginia-based producers, from start-ups to established and expanding companies.

The VASBDC offers one-on-one consulting on all aspects of business development, such as Starting a Business, Financing a Business, Maintaining a Business, and Growing a Business.

The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP) assists Virginia-based technology and innovation-driven startups on their path to success. Supporting startups – from ideation, all the way through seeking Series A level of funding and beyond – ICAP services are offered at no cost to participants and all advising is strictly confidential. Through ICAP, clients have been able to: learn how to validate their business model (for themselves and funders) before investing significant dollars, connect with subject matter experts, deeply understand their marketplace and competition, and make industry and funder connections.

VASBDC International Business Development Program (IBD). The Virginia SBDC International Business Development Program works with Virginia based firms to enhance their global success. Their Certified Global Business Professionals provide confidential counseling, training, and customized research to help companies mitigate risks, prioritize markets, identify financing, and grow export sales.

In partnership with Early Education Business Consultants, the Virginia SBDC is offers an 8-week, training program that will provide childcare businesses with the necessary management and business tools to improve the profitability and sustainability of their child care business and the long-term relationships needed to support them as business owners.

VASBDC Cybersecurity Program. Whether you are a retailer or restaurant who is responsible for customer data or a business moving online for the first time the SBDC provides support for small companies to keep your business secure by offering one-on-one counseling, assessments, and webinars to learn how to protect your businesses from cyber threats.

VLA LEGAL FELLOWSHIPS
Legal Fellowships at VLA are available to recent law school graduates and deferred associates who can secure independent fellowship funding. VLA’s Legal Fellows interact daily with clients and gain hands-on experience analyzing, interpreting, and counseling members of New York’s arts community on legal issues pertaining to various areas of law, including intellectual property, contract, and non-profit and for-profit corporate matters.

Legal Fellows are most commonly full-time positions, but we are also able to accommodate part-time candidates available to work at least 20 hours per week at VLA’s office at 1 E. 53rd St. Most Fellowships’ start dates coincide with the Fall academic semester, but some positions may be available on a rolling basis. Note that these are unpaid positions. Only those who have secured (or will secure) independent funding may apply. Please specify the source of your funding in your application.

Legal Fellows duties include:

Reviewing intake files relating to arts-related legal matters, and preparing memoranda that identify key legal and factual issues
Participating in client consultations and administering client case files in preparation for referral to pro bono counsel. Legal fellows admitted to the New York State Bar may have the opportunity to lead consultations.
Assisting in coordinating off-site legal services programming for VLA artists.
Conducting legal research, writing, and case management in support of ongoing intellectual property, contract, corporate, and dispute resolution matters.
Training and supervising VLA law student interns in their daily tasks.
Assisting with VLA’s education and development programming by creating presentation materials, and teaching classes on legal issues that affect artists and arts organizations.
Legal Fellows essential skills:

Demonstrated interest in the arts and public service
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment
Multitasker with attention to detail
Strong legal research and writing skills
Prior course work and experience in intellectual property and/or the arts strongly preferred

Anacostia Arts Center. Anacostia Arts Center is a home for the arts, culture, and small businesses, where the physical space is used to employ and nourish the local arts and creative economy. Hosts events for and centering local entrepreneurs.

The BizChat series is WDCEP’s signature workshop series that supports DC-based businesses by providing expert advice, resources and practical solutions.

1-on-1 coaching in areas including financing, business law, marketing, real estate, etc. for all stages of business development. Learn how to write a successful business plan, understanding what bankers look for, determining the best way to manage business operations including your taxes, accounting, employee insurance, payroll and marketing.

Ascend Capital Accelerator Thrive Cohort. Dedicated to serving entrepreneurs of color through a holistic, multi-week program, our hands-on approach consists of interactive workshops, one-on-one consultations with world class experts, and individualized support. Our goal is to support the growth and long-term success of entrepreneurs of color in the Greater Washington, D.C. region, and surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.

The Minnesota Avenue Main Street (MAMS) is an initiative to promote, revitalize, and develop the Minnesota Avenue corridor, one of the largest historic commercial districts located east of the Anacostia River. They offer grant opportunities for Black-owned businesses in Washington, D.C. Wards 7 and 8, 1:1 Business Consultations, Workshops & Events, Business Marketing, and Real Estate Support.

The Enterprising Women of Color District, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) Business Center (Center) fosters and supports a small business ecosystem for women of color in the National Capital Region. The Center offers a plethora of business services including financial capital, business advisory services, and networking support. EWOC offers direct funding fit for the entrepreneur’s individual needs & goals, from microloans to emergency funding and financing options. They provide free, individualized consulting services to help NEW and existing business owners develop and grow their business.
